Professor Sanjoy Roy, Head DSSW

Our Department's rich legacy as a premier institute of Social Work in India as well as in the World, has been well established. In our long historical trajectory, we have achieved many significant milestones, and with our exceptionally positive vision, mission, and values we have made strong impact on diverse set of people, communities and society at large. Our curriculum is designed to provide our students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to address the complex and diverse social issues and challenges of the contemporary society. Our faculty members are renowned scholars and practitioners in their respective areas of specialization, and are actively engaged in research projects, publications, and collaborations with national and international agencies. Our students also participate in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, such as seminars, workshops, conferences, cultural events, and sports, that enhance their overall personality and professional development.
In spite of several challenges, we have not been deterred from providing quality learning to our students and we have persistently maintained first rank in academic excellence and personality development amongst all the social work institutions in India. I believe that any institution becomes lively and vibrant spaces for learning & sharing only when members of the teaching faculty, non-teaching staff, scholars and students join hands together assiduously to pursue the goal of transformation and empowerment, and I am truly pleased to affirm here that our institution is one of the best sites to see that kind of convergence. Recently Department has started its own journal, "Indian Journal of Social Work Education and Practice".
Our students have been consistently performing well in the placement process, securing attractive offers from reputed organizations and institutions across various sectors and domains. They have also demonstrated their potential and interest for entrepreneurship, innovation, and social change, by initiating their own ventures, developing innovative solutions, and contributing to various social causes and movements. The outgoing student batch of our department has brought with them a vast experience of very meaningful engagement at diverse sites of practicum and have adequate understanding of the contemporary socio-economic, cultural and political concern. Our students have also very strong foundation of theoretical paradigm through meticulously developed core and optional papers across semesters. Hard work, commitment, compassion, self-belief, positive attitude are the main hallmark of the present batch
